Nestled within the protected woodlands of Mt. Meru near the Momella meadow, Hatari is one of the very few properties located inside the Arusha National Park. The Lodge itself has a interesting and somewhat unusual history. Conceived and constructed as a set for the 1963 movie Hatari starring John Wayne (link) it is now in care of the Gabriel family and has taken on a new role as a travel destination and (Animal) Sanctuary with a strong emphasis community and natural harmony.
